I’m the art director for the WWF Youth magazine in The Netherlands. It’s a perfect project for me, as I get to unleash my inner creativity and it matches my personal values.
Over the past few years, I began to feel more and more concerned that the world was slowly dying. My hands itched and I had to do something. That is why I became a volunteer for the World Wildlife Fund. Out of 500 creative young people I got selected with 20 others to join the WWF Youth makers team.
We were given full freedom to create a new magazine for people between 12-20. I work with three young journalists who are responsible for the copy in the magazine and my role is to give it a great look & feel so it really fits with our young target audience.
After five months of concept brainstorming, the first magazine was delivered to 55.000 members in November 2021. The magazine contains 36 pages, is printed on recycled paper and is issued quartely.
Meanwhile, the role has changed from unpaid volunteer to freelance art director and we have issued 4 editions and a 5th one is in the making. Go check it out!
